How to track calories from a meal photo
A photo can reduce typing, but it cannot weigh a meal. SnapCal identifies foods, estimates portions and combines those estimates with nutrition data; you should review the result before saving.
Three steps
- Photograph the meal: keep the main foods clear, well lit and visible.
- Review the result: check the food, cooking method and portion; switch to manual search when needed.
- Save the log: review the estimated calories and macros, choose the meal and save.
Why portion review matters
Two plates that look alike can hold different weights, and a photo may miss cooking oil, sauces or hidden ingredients. Use a known weight when available and compare packaged foods with their label and the number of servings eaten.
When manual logging is better
Manual search is often more reliable for known foods, repeated meals, mixed dishes or incomplete recognition. Copy a recent meal and update the portion when you eat something familiar.
